THE Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) brought the heart of Fiji’s sporting community together on April 29, hosting its Annual General Assembly (AGA) at the Fiji Olympic House Office.
With representatives from National Federations attending, it was a chance to reflect on the year that was, reconnect with one another, and look ahead to what’s next for sport in Fiji.
Federations were reminded that while each sport works under different rules and competitions, everyone is pushing toward the same goal: Growing sport and creating more opportunities for Fijian athletes.
The assembly also featured key updates from president Cathy Wong and CEO Vanessa Kilner, who spoke on the progress made and the direction ahead for FASANOC.
A major theme was moving beyond day-to-day operations and strengthening governance at board level, so the organisation can focus more intentionally on long-term planning and clear strategic leadership.
Both reports also pointed to the importance of building capacity, investing in people, skills, and systems so national federations are better supported.
Financial sustainability was another key focus, including taking a closer look at FASANOC’s brand value and expanding marketing and sponsorship opportunities to strengthen the organisation’s work.
Just as importantly, members reaffirmed that collaboration remains central, with a shared commitment to working closely with all sports stakeholders to support athlete development and prepare Team Fiji for major international competitions, including the 2026 Commonwealth Games and the Youth Olympic Games later this year.
At the heart of these priorities is a simple, but powerful vision: To inspire Fiji through sport.
It’s a reminder that beyond medals and results, sport has a real way of bringing people together and strengthening communities across the country.
One of the meetings highlights was the election of three positions to FASANOC’s Board.
Petero Vatu was reappointed as Vice President Finance, while Della Shaw-Elder (Weightlifting Fiji) and Litia Mario (Fiji Hockey Federation) were elected as Vice Presidents, earning the confidence and support of the sporting community. FASANOC acknowledged and thanked outgoing Vice Presidents Jerome Kado, who is stepping down after reaching the maximum serving term limit and Prem Narayan whose legal input greatly assisted the Board during her tenure.
Together, the Board brings valuable experience, energy, and a strong passion for sport, and will play an important role in guiding FASANOC’s future direction.
The AGA was a timely reminder that behind every plan and policy are people, administrators, volunteers, coaches, and athletes who continue to put in the work to grow sport in Fiji.
With clear direction, steady leadership, and a united approach, FASANOC moves forward with confidence, focused on building a stronger future for sport and inspiring the nation along the way.
