Fiji soccer player drowns in Samoa

Update: 7:31PM THE Vodafone Fiji Under-17 soccer team in Samoa has been hit by a major tragedy after a player drowned this afternoon.

Samoa police confirmed a short while ago that the 16-year old player drowned at the Vailoa waterfalls in Savai’i.

Fiji Football Association vice president and national team director Tarunesh Reddy confirmed that the deceased player is Muni Reddy of Malolo in Nadi and that his family had been informed about the tragedy.

The national side which is supposed to return home on Friday had participated in the Oceania Football Confederation U-17 Championship which ended in Samoa this afternoon.
