The Fiji Junior sides participating in the Under-16 AFL Oceania Cup finished fourth in the girls and boys competitions.

In the final round of games yesterday, the Fiji Junior Tribe boys side lost to Tonga in the third-place play-off 4-4-28 to 3-2-20 at Albert Park in Suva.

Papua New Guinea won the boys final after beating Nauru 6-4-40 to 4-3-27.

The Fiji Junior Vonu girls side went down to Papua New Guinea 5-3-33 to 0-0-0.

Tonga won the girls final after beating Nauru 2-1-13 to 1-0-6.

Meanwhile, Loata Vakasausau, the academy manager for Fiji, noted that this was the first time a girls team from Fiji had participated in the Oceania Cup.

This marked a significant milestone, considering that most of the girls were new to the sport of AFL, with limited experience outside of training games.

Looking to the future, Vakasausau highlighted the need for skilled coaches and welcomed anyone interested in supporting AFL in Fiji to come forward.
