FIJI Rugby marked a historic milestone with a bold proposed purchase of “our first property since the 1980s”.
Chairman John Ian Sanday said this as he launched plans to establish a permanent home for the sport in Saweni, Lautoka.
The initiative signals a bold new chapter in the organisation’s 113-year history.
FRU, in its Facebook page, stated it aims to develop a world-class hub that will support players, fans and the future growth of rugby in the country.
“This is a story of belief, vision, and the generations of Fijians who will one day call this home. The future of Fiji Rugby begins here.
“Remember this moment, it’s a major step up for Fiji Rugby in its 113-year history,” Sanday said.
It further stated the proposed development will include an international stadium, a high-performance training facility, a Fiji Rugby hotel and a museum dedicated to preserving the rich legacy of the game in Fiji.
“With our application for land in Saweni, we’re building more than a stadium.
“We’re creating a home for our history, our fans, and future champions: an international stadium, a high-performance training facility, a Fiji Rugby hotel, and a museum celebrating our legacy. We stood at the gate of a new era for Fiji Rugby.”
