Organised criminal syndicates will not be allowed to undermine the country’s sovereignty, security, and social stability.

Minister for Justice and Acting Attorney-General Siromi Turaga made the comments in Parliament yesterday while speaking on behalf of Minister for Policing Ioane Naivalurua.

“We will confront this challenge with resolve, discipline and unity,” he said.

He reassured the nation that Fiji remained safe and stable.

“On matters relating to policing and communications, I want to reassure this House and the people of Fiji that our nation remains safe, stable, and governed firmly under the Rule of Law.

He addressed recent speculation on social media regarding the tragic death of constable Peniasi Racagi, noting that the Fiji Police Force had conducted “an impartial and professional investigation into this matter”.

“Based on the evidence gathered thus far, prima facie findings have led to two accused persons being charged in connection with the death of the late police officer, who died while performing his duty.

“The matter is now before the courts, and therefore the course of justice must proceed unhindered. Justice must be allowed to take its full and proper course.”

He paid tribute to constable Racagi, who was laid to rest last Saturday in his home village of Naviqiri, Navakasiga, Bua.

“Constable Racagi was a young officer who paid the ultimate sacrifice in service to the nation and whose bravery and loyalty in the execution of his duty will not be forgotten.”
