The FIJI Water Flying Fijians have shown strong resilience following their recent defeat to England.

Backline coach Aaron Mauger is optimistic of the team’s future performances despite a tough 18-38 loss to the Red Roses last week.

Mauger emphasised the squad remains confident in their ability to compete against top-tier teams.

“It’s been a big few days for us, obviously we had that performance against England over the weekend and going into these big games expecting to perform well and to perform well to get those results so literally everybody was disappointed with the outcome,” he said.

However, Mauger highlighted encouraging signs from the match.

“But the context there is: there’s a lot of good things happening in the game, we were going toe to toe with one of the top four teams in the world and only in a couple of moments -a little bit of executions in the right parts of the field and in pretty good spaces let us down.

“Yeah, disappointed not to get the results and to let it slip away in the last 10 minutes of the game.”

Rather than dwelling on the loss, the Flying Fijians have quickly shifted their focus to their next challenge: another massive test against France on Sunday.

The team has already begun preparations, determined to bounce back stronger.

“So yeah, we had a really good review yesterday after travelling on Sunday and another good day today, so we are two days into our weekend preparations for the French, which is going to be another big battle.

“So, we are very much looking forward to it, really proud of the players they’ve really bounced well from the disappointment, and we’ll set our week well going into the recovery and recharge day tomorrow(yesterday).” Mauger explained

The Flying Fijians will face France on Sunday, November 16, in Bordeaux, kicking off at 8.10am (Fiji time).
