The Fiji Police Force has issued a clarification following the circulation of accident footage online, saying the incident was not filmed at a routine traffic checkpoint as widely claimed.
According to police, the footage relates to a fatal accident scene in Talenaua last month.
Officers were in the process of clearing the road when the incident occurred.
Police say the bus involved had slowed as it approached the accident site, but a lapse in concentration led to the collision.
The officer seen in the video was directing traffic traveling in the opposite direction and was not carrying out traffic checks.
The Fiji Police Force is urging members of the public to cooperate with officers at crash and crime scenes to ensure safety and allow emergency operations to proceed smoothly.
