THE Government has revealed plans of a major business process outsourcing (BPO) infrastructure project in Nasinu as it steps up efforts to become the region’s digital outsourcing powerhouse.

The planned development of the new BPO hub at the Kalabu Tax Free Zone will be described as a BPO village and will be a one-stop digital area offering high-speed connectivity, lifestyle facilities, and infrastructural support to attract international investors.

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade, Co-operatives, MSMEs and Communications Manoa Kamikamica deliberated these plans at a meeting with Outsource Fiji executive director Joseva Wivou, noting the strategic direction of Fiji’s growing BPO industry.

“This is a first-of-its-kind development for the region. We are not just building infrastructure, we’re shaping a future-ready digital ecosystem for Fiji and the Pacific,” Mr Kamikamica said in a statement.

“We are not just building infrastructure, we’re shaping a future-ready digital ecosystem for Fiji and the Pacific.”

The meeting also reviewed the progress following the recent annual general meeting of the BPO Council that marked a transition in leadership and renewed efforts to grow membership and unify the sector.

According to the ministry, at present, Fiji hosts around eight active BPO operators, and industry leaders are targeting to more than double that figure over the coming years.

“We’ve seen four or five new BPO players enter the market in recent months.

“The momentum is real, but we need better alignment in data, messaging, and investment support to sustain and scale this growth.”

Mr Kamikamica reaffirmed the Government’s support saying BPO growth was key to delivering on the National Digital Strategy and creating meaningful pathways for youth employment.

“The BPO sector is one of Fiji’s most promising economic engines. It brings jobs, innovation, and hope, especially for our young people looking for opportunities in the digital economy.”

The ministry stated Fiji’s outsourcing sector was rapidly expanding, driven by the country’s competitive cost structure, highly skilled talent pool, and strong cultural compatibility with major global markets.

“With major developments in the pipeline and increased public-private collaboration, Fiji is well-positioned to evolve into a billion-dollar BPO industry and a digital leader in the region.”
