Fiji, New Zealand leaders reaffirm partnership at PIF

PRIME Minister Sitiveni Rabuka and his New Zealand counterpart Christopher Luxon have reaffirmed the long-standing friendship between the two nations, pledging to deepen ties across trade, security and development.

The leaders met on the margins of the 54th Pacific Islands Forum Leaders Meeting in Honiara, where they reflected on the Duavata Partnership and the shared values that underpin Fiji–New Zealand relations.Mr Rabuka thanked Wellington for its continued support.

He highlighted the importance of strengthening ongoing programmes and initiatives and praised the duavata spirit across areas of mutual interest.

Prime Minister Luxon reaffirmed New Zealand’s support for the Ocean of Peace concept and pledged to boost bilateral trade.

“New Zealand is committed to strengthening bilateral trade with Fiji, with the goal of reaching the $2billion mark,” he said.

On the fight against HIV/AIDS, tackling organised crime, and addressing drug trafficking, Mr Luxon said that New Zealand stands ready to consider and assist with any future requests from Fiji. Both leaders agreed to explore new areas of cooperation and reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral relations.
