The Republic of Fiji’s Navy (RFN) exercise Limasagavulu is now underway.

The exercise is being conducted as part of the RFN’s 50th anniversary celebration this year.

According to RFN, the final command briefs were completed, and exercise control were established at the Maritime Essential Services Centre (MESC) in Lami to coordinate activities.

The Fiji navy said exercise Limasagavulu was based on a Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) scenario where an island has been severely affected.

The task unit provide an initial response and assess the pattern of life on the affected island.

The exercise will provide the navy with an opportunity to test their standard operating procedures, evaluate communications and assess the functionality of the centre.

A total of 117 naval personnel were deployed for the exercise with three ships.

The team included the navy diving team, a deployable survey team, the small boats squadron and other supporting staff. The exercise is led by the Task Group commander, Commander Jervis Robinson.

He gave a final briefing before the team was deployed. The exercise will continue for the next few days.
