The Fiji Meteorological Service (FMS) has launched a state-of-the-art disaster recovery infrastructure in partnership with Datec (Fiji) Pte Ltd, significantly boosting the country’s ability to deliver uninterrupted weather services during extreme events.
A release from the department said that the new system, now fully operational, ensures continuous access to vital meteorological data even during natural disasters, enhancing early warning capabilities and public safety.
“It includes a geographically redundant setup designed to minimize downtime, protect critical data, and support faster, more accurate advisories,” it said.
FMS Director Misaeli Funaki described the initiative as a major leap forward saying that this project represented a shift in how we protected communities.
“Staying operational during emergencies is essential and this system ensures exactly that.”
Moreover, Datec chief executive Vinit Nand said the partnership reflected a shared vision for a digitally resilient Fiji.
“We’re proud to deliver a solution that strengthens national readiness and sets a regional example for climate resilience,” he said.
“The deployment aligns Fiji’s meteorological infrastructure with global digital standards, reinforcing the country’s leadership in climate readiness across the Pacific.”
