The Fiji Meteorological Service has released its latest Early Action Rainfall Watch (EAR Watch), highlighting possible rainfall extremes over the coming weeks and months.
The EAR is released to help disaster management teams prepare ahead.
According to the bulletin, Rotuma faces a medium chance (30–40%) of very wet conditions between 15th and 28th August, raising the possibility of localised flooding and waterlogging.
In contrast, Vatulele, Kadavu, and parts of the Southern Lau Group are likely to experience very dry conditions during the same period, with a medium chance (30–40%) of significantly below-normal rainfall.
Despite these regional variations, the Met Service has confirmed that no extreme alerts are currently in place for the wider Fiji Group during the month of August.
Looking ahead to the August–October 2025 period, forecasters are warning of a high (50–60%) chance of very wet conditions in Rotuma.
There is also a medium chance of increased rainfall across several areas, including the Central and Northern Divisions, parts of the Northern Lau Group, Ono-i-Lau, the Rakiraki to Lautoka corridor, Lomaiviti Group, and southern Kadavu.
