The Minister for Policing, Ioane Naivalurua, and the Head of Indonesia’s National Narcotics Board,  Commissioner General Suyudi Ario Seto, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Monday to boost cooperation in preventing and combating illicit narcotics activities.

A Fiji government statement said the agreement focuses on combating narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, and their precursors, while also strengthening institutional capacity and training development.

Minister Naivalurua said the signing represents a shared vision and commitment between Fiji and Indonesia in tackling the global challenge of drug abuse and trafficking.

“This partnership signifies a collaborative spirit that will enhance our ability to address the complex issues surrounding narcotics and build a safer future for our communities,” he said.

During his visit, Minister Naivalurua toured the BNN Rehabilitation Centre at Lido, where he observed Indonesia’s approach to rehabilitation and harm reduction.

The visit provided insights for Fiji’s efforts to develop its own rehabilitation model under the country’s Counter Narcotics Strategy.
