The Fiji High Commission in New Delhi has confirmed that no Fijian nationals were among the casualties or injured in Monday night’s car explosion near the Red Fort area in India’s capital.

In a public advisory issued on Tuesday, the Mission said it was “closely monitoring the situation” and maintaining contact with Indian authorities to ensure the safety of Fijians living, studying, or travelling in India.

“We are relieved to confirm that no Fijian nationals have been reported among the casualties or injured persons as a result of the incident,” the statement said.

The High Commission advised all Fijians in India to exercise heightened caution and avoid crowded places and large gatherings while security operations continue in the affected area.

“All Fijians are strongly advised to comply fully with security checks at airports, hotels, and transport hubs, keep valid identification with them at all times, and stay alert to official advisories issued by local authorities and the Fiji High Commission,” it said.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the Government and people of India during this difficult time. Fiji stands in solidarity with India and extends deepest sympathies to the victims and their families.”

The explosion, which occurred near the historic Red Fort on Monday evening, prompted a strong security response across the city as investigations into the cause of the blast continue.
