“A HEARTBREAKING loss.”

These were the sentiments of Fiji Football Association president Rajesh Patel on the passing of Suva women’s football rep Vane Lolo Tukania over the weekend.

Tukania died in a hit-and-run accident along Ratu Dovi Road in Nadera last Saturday.

Patel reflected on her stint as a footballer, describing her as “not only a talented and dedicated footballer but also a remarkable young woman who served her country with pride.”

Tukania represented Fiji at the under-17 level.

“On behalf of Fiji Football, we extend our deeprest condolences to her family, teammates and friends during this very painful time,” Patel said.

Tukania, the daughter of former national and Labasa football star, Tevita Tukania, was known for her commitment to the sport and her determination on and off the field.

She had represented Fiji at the under-17 level, featured for the Labasa women’s side, and was a member of the Suva women’s team.

She also served as a fire officer, a role in which she was respected for her dedication and courage.

Fiji FA president Rajesh Patel said Tukania’s death was a devastating loss for the football family.

“This is a heartbreaking loss for the entire football community.

“Vane was not only a talented and dedicated footballer but also a remarkable young woman who served her country with pride.

“Her passion, discipline, and warm spirit touched everyone who knew her.”

Tukania also represented the Namosi women’s team in rugby.

She helped the side win both the Marama Cup and the Pio Bosco trophy this year.

Over the weekend, her teammates had flooded social media with their messages of grief.

Tukania will be laid to rest in Labasa on Saturday.

Family members, friends, and football officials are expected to gather to pay their final respects.
