IN a testament to resilience and creativity, the Vodafone Fiji Fashion Week 2024 kicked off with a spectacular launch at the historic Nukulau Island yesterday.

Despite the looming uncertainty of Suva’s unpredictable weather, the FJFW team forged ahead, showcasing their unwavering dedication to the event’s success.

The choice of Nukulau Island as the venue for this year’s launch was not arbitrary. Embedded in Fiji’s rich tapestry of history, Nukulau Island embodies a storied past that resonates deeply with the essence of Fijian culture. Reflecting this profound connection, the event featured top designers such as Sunia Tubuna of Niurua Creatives, Hupfeld Hoerder of Hupfeld Hoerder Designs, Tracey Ann Farrington, and Zulfikar Ali of AZA Fiji.

Their designs intricately wove together narratives of Fiji’s voyages, from its girmitiya heritage to the colonial era, all the while celebrating the enduring influence of Polynesian culture and the custodianship of the iTaukei people.

A prominent figure within the FJFW team, Ellen Whippy Knight expressed her gratitude towards her dedicated team and the unwavering support of sponsors and attendees.

“This week has been a tiring week for me and my team because of many factors, but with such a brilliant team and their resilience and the support of the people and our incredible sponsors, this was able to happen,” she said.

The launch saw the convergence of over 150 guests and 70 crew members and suppliers, all united in their commitment to bringing this vision to life.

Acknowledging the pivotal role of sponsors, particularly Vodafone, in making the event possible, the organisers extended their heartfelt appreciation for their invaluable support.
