Fiji falls short of one million visitor arrivals again despite record year

Fiji’s tourism industry reached a new milestone in 2025, with annual visitor arrivals climbing to a record 986,367, compared to 982,938 in 2024, according to the Fiji Bureau of Statistics.

August emerged as the busiest month of 2025 with 99,737 arrivals, accounting for 10.1 per cent of total visitor numbers.

This was followed closely by July with 99,311 arrivals (10.0 per cent) and June with 92,693 arrivals (9.4 per cent), reflecting strong peak-season demand.

The majority of visitors continued to come from Fiji’s two largest source markets — Australia and New Zealand.

Australia accounted for 452,422 visitors (45.9 per cent), while New Zealand contributed 219,301 visitors (22.2 per cent). This translates to an average daily arrival of approximately 1,239 visitors from Australia and 600 from New Zealand.

Holiday travel remained the dominant reason for visiting Fiji in 2025, with 779,447 visitors (79.0 per cent) arriving for leisure.

A further 80,871 visitors (8.2 per cent) came to visit friends or relatives, 21,513 (2.2 per cent) arrived for business purposes, and 103,320 visitors (10.6 per cent) visited for other reasons.
