Fiji FA introduces women CVC clash

FIJI Football Association president Rajesh Patel announced the inclusion of a women’s champion v champion match to be held this year in a press conference yesterday at the headquarters in Vatuwaqa, Suva.

The match will be held on February 12 at the HBC Bank stadium in Suva with the winner walking away with a $2500 cash prize.

“I am pleased to announce that for the first time, there will be a women’s champion v champion match,” Patel said.

Inter-district women’s championship winner, Ba FC, will be taking on long-time rival and Digicel Premier League winner Labasa next month.

“This is the first time for the Fiji Football Association to conduct a women’s champion v champion match and will certainly not be the last.

“This is a historic occasion for women’s football and we have been very excited to announce the news.”

On the other hand, men’s IDC title holders Suva will be battling Digicel League winners Rewa in the Champion versus Champion match. The winner from this match will walk away with a $5000 cash prize while the runners-up will settle with $2500.

“You can tell that the world will be receiving half of the men’s prize money, this is because all the women’s expenses are being paid for by the FFA. This includes their fare, accommodation, food and transportation to and from the place they will be playing.”

Also present at the press conference were the captains of the respective teams that will be playing in the two divisions of the champions versus champion.

In the men’s division, Suva and Rewa will battle it out at the Ratu Cakobau Park in Nausori for the first round while the second round will be held at the HFC Bank stadium.
