The Fiji Football Association has appointed its new technical director German national Timo Jankowski.
Making his first official appearance in Ba yesterday, Jankowski said he was looking forward to working with Fiji FA in getting the team prepared for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
“My aim really is to work as a long-term technical director,” he said.
“In other years for FFA, the technical director sometimes last not more than two years.
“That is not enough time to develop football in the best possible ways.
“I’m really confident that I am in the right place with all these good people to develop something very good.”
Fiji Football Association president Rajesh Patel said Jankowski was a highly qualified individual for role of technical director.
“Timo is well known to the region and its culture after spending about a year in New Zealand as a football player in early 2000,” he said.
“Apart from various other credentials he attained his UEFA A License in 2011 in Germany via the German Football Federation and again did his refresher for the UEFA A Licence in 2016 with the Swiss Football Federation.
“He is a graduate in international business management from the University of Lorach and he has written two books on specific football development areas which have been highly received from the football hierarchy in Europe.
“After a series of interviews with Timo who was based in Switzerland, in March 2021 we finally agreed that we found the right person.”
He explained that Timo’s salary would be paid by Fiji FA.
“His initial contract has a contract of three years and there’s an option for a renewal.
“We would like to have him long term as long as we both can work together and with our head coach and the pathway they have set out for the 2026 World Cup and for the 2023 Women’s World Cup.”
Timo replaces Ravinesh Kumar who resigned in March, 2020.
