THE Fiji Football Association president Rajesh Patel believes that Fiji needs another Europe- based coach to take over from former Vodafone national football coach Christophe Gamel who resigned last month.

Patel said he doesn’t underestimate the calibre of the local coaches but he believed qualifications could be an issue.

“People are misunderstanding the fact we don’t have a local coach, that’s not the case.

The locals are not fully qualified as a pro coach yet, there are a handful of them in the A-licence now and we only have one that’s finished that and then the assessment goes on for two years.

“The reason we want to go to Europe is because we need the continuity that has happened with Christophe Gamel and he has brought in the European style.

“We would love to see an European coach and his continuity from Gamel the local coaches can understudy him and in future we will have a local coach,” said Patel.

Meanwhile Patel said the Serbian ambassador called him from Australia seeking for an opportunity for a Serbian pro coach to take over the coaching role.

“The Serbian ambassador called me from Australia and he is interested in the job and we’ve started correspondents with the Serbian Football Association willing to have one of their coaches come and coach Fiji,” said Patel.
