The Embassy of the Republic of Fiji in Abu Dhabi has issued an advisory to Fijian nationals in the United Arab Emirates and the wider Gulf region following temporary airspace closures and flight restrictions implemented as precautionary security measures.
The Embassy said the United Arab Emirates, along with several Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, has suspended, delayed or rerouted commercial flights until further notice.
UAE authorities have indicated that airspace will only reopen once it is assessed to be fully safe.
Fijians are strongly advised to check directly with their airlines for the latest updates on flight status, rebooking, refunds or rescheduling arrangements, and to rely on official airline websites and verified communication channels rather than third-party sources.
The Embassy noted that Fijians currently in the UAE on tourism or visit visas may access provisions to extend or regularise their stay due to flight cancellations.
UAE authorities have also reassured Heads of Mission that flexibility will be exercised in cases involving passport or documentation issues where necessary.
While land borders to the Saudi Arabia and Oman remain open, movement at border crossings is reportedly very slow, and travel through land borders is discouraged unless absolutely necessary.
The UAE Government has also advised that accommodation support will be provided for stranded tourists affected by flight disruptions.
The Embassy has requested that all Fijian nationals who are not UAE residents, including tourists and short-term visitors, register with the Fiji Embassy in Abu Dhabi as soon as possible using the registration link previously circulated.
The Embassy reaffirmed its commitment to monitoring the situation closely and to providing timely updates to ensure the safety and welfare of all Fijians in the region.
