Cabinet minister Sakiasi Ditoka has reflected on faith, leadership and national responsibility following his attendance at the People’s Alliance Thanksgiving Church Service on Sunday.
In a social media post, Mr Ditoka drew parallels between Christian values and public leadership, saying restraint in public life was often misinterpreted as weakness, particularly in the aftermath of what he described as an “abnormal period” in Fiji’s history.
“Fiji did not need theatrics or political revenge. It needed the rule of law restored, institutions stabilised, fear removed from the system, and leaders disciplined enough to govern without settling scores,” Mr Ditoka said.
He stressed that the strength of a democracy lay in its institutions rather than in individuals.
“Strong institutions — not strongmen — are what protect democracy,” he said.
Mr Ditoka said the message reinforced the importance of principled leadership grounded in faith, responsibility and long-term nation-building.
