Opposition member Parveen Bala believes the Fiji Day celebration did not include all members of society.

In a release, he said the Fiji Day excluded other divisional celebrations and the non-inclusion of students from special schools and senior citizens.

“In previous years, special measures were taken to include these groups, showcasing inclusion, harmony, and progress for all Fijians,” he said.

“Special schools were recognized and celebrated with gift packs. This year’s celebration, by contrast, felt like a missed opportunity to build national confidence and reaffirm Fiji’s unity.

“We must do better to ensure that Fiji Day is more than just a symbolic gesture.”

He said such celebration should be a platform to strengthen the nation’s unity and highlight progress as a nation, something the previous governments consistently achieved through their emphasis on engagement with all sectors of society.
