The Fiji men’s cricket team concluded their International Cricket Council Men’s T20 Cricket World Cup Sub-Regional A qualifier with a thrilling 9-run triumph over the Cook Islands at the Garden Ovals in Apia on Saturday.

This victory marked Fiji’s third win in the qualifier, continuing their dominance over the Cook Islands.

Although the win may not secure Fiji the top spot in the qualifier, it adds to the suspense of the finale, as the outcome of the Samoa vs Vanuatu game will determine the qualifying team from the region.

A win for Samoa will see them through, while a loss will result in the Cook Islands qualifying from the sub-regional qualifier.

Player of the match and Captain Peni Vuniwaqa showcased his impressive form by scoring 45 runs from 28 balls and taking 2 wickets for 31 runs.

Vice-Captain Peni Kotoisuva also contributed significantly to the team’s success by scoring 28 runs from 17 balls.

Joeli Moala, the youngest member of the team, continued to shine by taking 3 wickets for 21 runs in his spell.

His outstanding performance in the final over restricted the Cook Islands to 126 runs, securing Fiji the victory.
