The Government of Fiji has renewed its call for restraint, dialogue and the peaceful resolution of disputes in accordance with international law, as tensions escalate in parts of the Middle East involving the United States, Israel and Iran.

In a statement, Sakiasi Ditoka, Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, said Fiji is closely monitoring developments across the region while maintaining regular contact with its diplomatic missions and honorary consuls.

“Fiji continues to call for restraint, dialogue and the peaceful resolution of disputes in accordance with international law,” Mr Ditoka said.

Mr Ditoka said Fiji’s missions in the Middle East are in contact with relevant authorities and remain engaged with Fijian nationals where necessary.

“Our Missions and Honorary Consuls are maintaining communication channels with Fijian nationals in the region,” he said.

“At this stage, we have not received confirmed reports of Fijian citizens being directly affected by the recent incidents.”

He acknowledged that Fijians live and work across several Gulf countries, including Qatar, and said the Ministry is taking precautionary steps to ensure readiness should the situation deteriorate.

“As a precaution, the Ministry is reviewing contingency protocols and stands ready to provide consular support if required,” Mr Ditoka said.

The Minister urged Fijians currently in the region to remain calm and vigilant, follow advisories issued by host governments, stay in contact with family members, and register with the nearest Fiji mission if they have not already done so.

Mr Ditoka also reassured families in Fiji who may be concerned about loved ones overseas.

“Please be assured that the Ministry is actively monitoring the situation and will provide updates should circumstances materially change,” he said.
