THE Fiji Association of Sports and National Olympic Committee (FASANOC) has teamed up with the Japanese Embassy in Fiji in working together towards the buildup of a successful outcome in the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Japan.

FASANOC sponsorship and marketing manager Ritesh Ratiram said they welcomed the opportunity to collaborate with the Japanese Embassy and would look at how both Team Fiji and the Japanese Embassy could benefit from working together.

“Discussions included possible collaborations for cultural programs amongst other things,” Ratiram said.

Team Fiji chef de mission Patrick Bower said the city of Oita would host Team Fiji for pre-Games training camps to give the athletes a fair idea of the atmosphere and what to expect in terms of weather, pressure and a reality of what it is going to be like.

“The city of Oita will accommodate and facilitate Team Fiji’s preparation in the lead-up to Tokyo 2020 Olympics,” Bower said.

“We will also benefit greatly from the high standard of venues available in the city of Oita for the sports that Fiji will be participating in Tokyo.

“It is also an opportunity to participate in pre-games competition and also to focus on what Team Fiji would like to achieve without too many distractions.”

While Team Fiji men’s and women’s rugby 7s teams have earned direct qualification to the 2020 Olympic Games, other sports also vying for qualification include archery, athletics, boxing, judo, karate, swimming and table tennis.

The 2020 Olympic Games starts in July in Japan.
