Fiji builds momentum ahead of Singapore 7s

THE Fiji Airways Fiji men’s 7s team is currently in camp preparing for the upcoming Singapore 7s, the third leg of the HSBC seven’s series.

After finishing third place in the Cape Town 7s leg, defeating France 26-19 in a thrilling match, the team is determined to continue their confidence ahead.

Despite the festive season, the team has remained focused on their training sessions, which took place yesterday at Albert Park in Suva.

Coach Osea Kolinisau leading the team, emphasising the importance of performing at their best in the upcoming tournaments.

One of the extended squad players, Isaia Rugu, expressed his gratitude and excitement at being part of the team.

The 25-year-old from Nadrala, Nadroga, has had a lifelong dream of representing Fiji in rugby. Starting his journey with the Malolo Rugby team, which won the Skipper Cup this year, Isaia is grateful for the opportunities and lessons he has received along the way.

“It has been a great journey so far, God has been part of my journey, I’m grateful for the lessons, and teaching I have got, and also the talent I have to represent my country,” said Rugu.

“I started from a long way, rugby was always a dream, and looking at the place a reach today, this is just the beginning, and I will work hard for the future.”

The competition for a spot on the team is fierce, but Isaia is motivated to continue pushing himself and improving for the future.

“Everyone is fighting for a spot for the Singapore 7s, so I know it won’t be easy, but if i get a chance to be part of the team, I will surely do my best.”

The Singapore 7s will be held on January 31 to February 1.
