Fiji braces for Cambodia

FIJI Football Association is awaiting confirmation for the Vodafone-sponsored national side’s match against Cambodia in an international friendly next month.

Fiji FA vice-president and national team director, Tarunesh Reddy revealed this after the naming of the national squad this week.

“The players who have been named by national coach Christophe Gamel will go into camp on Sunday to prepare for our friendly matches,” he said.

“We are finalising the Cambodia tour and if it does not get finalised, the players would be released and return later to prepare for the match against Estonia.

“Cambodia confirmed to play on November 4, but they are having a water festival on the particular day and it is a big event event for them. They do not want to play on that date. We have asked them to shift the date before or after the water festival.”

Meanwhile, the Pillay Garments Champion vs Champion (CVC) series has been shifted to next January.

“We have decided to shift the tournament because of the national team commitments, so it will be played in January,” Reddy said.

“The CVC will be played between national league winner Lautoka and 2016 IDC winner Labasa.

“The matches will be played on a home and away basis.”

Fiji will play Estonia on November 19.
