The Fiji Airways Fiji men’s 7s team has booked a semi-final spot after winning their first two pool matches at the Perth Sevens.

Fiji opened their campaign with a convincing 26–10 win over Argentina before edging Spain 26–24 in their second pool match to secure their place in tomorrow’s semi-finals.

Kavekini Tanivanuakula was the hero against Spain, scoring a double after coming off the bench in the second spell as Fiji once again fought back in a closely contested encounter.

Spain struck early, scoring inside the opening minute, and extended their lead when Joseva Talacolo was shown a yellow card for a deliberate knockdown. Jeremy Trevithick capitalised during Fiji’s time with six men.

Fiji responded through Sevuloni Mocenacagi and Viwa Naduvalo, but a late error before halftime allowed Spain to take a 19–14 lead into the break.

Tanivanuakula then levelled the scores with an 80-metre effort, and although Spain crossed in the corner at fulltime, a missed conversion sealed a narrow 26–24 victory for Fiji and confirmed their semi-final spot.
