THE Hideaway Hurricanes has qualified for the second elimination that will be played today despite losing their first pool game yesterday against Navutulevu Boarders 5-0 at the 43rd Fiji Bitter Marist Sevens tournament at the ANZ Stadium in Suva.

Team coach and former national rep Sirilo Lala said wrong decision making in the field caused their first loss but they managed to regroup and settle in as top seed in Pool A.

“There were many opportunities to score tries but wrong options caused us that first game but the boys have learned from their mistakes,” said Lala.

However, the Hurricanes defeated a bold Gau Kacau Knights in the first elimination 24-5 to proceed to the second elimination.

“We went down in the first elimination last year and we will not make that same mistake, however, we are just halfway into the competition and our second elimination match will be tougher but the boys know what to do and must start of the second day of the tournament with a win.”

The Hurricanes has been featuring new faces every year at the Marist 7s tournament trying to groom and develop upcoming talents to get recognition by national selectors.

After they lost their first match to Navutulevu Boarders 5-0, the Coral Coast-based side came back strong in the second pool play to beat Humes Rugby 14-5.

They also won their final pool match against Zion Brothers 29-0 and they defeated Gau Kacau Knights 24-5 in the first elimination to round up the first day of the tournament.
