Lilian Amazons made a strong start in the women’s division of the Fiji Bitter Labasa 7s after remaining unbeaten at the end of day one of the competition.

The Amazons opened their campaign with a hard-fought 17–12 win over Seahawks before edging Ezers Women 12–10 in their second pool match to stay undefeated.

Team captain Laisa Seru said the tournament is also about development, with several young players aged 16 and 17 taking part in their first major sevens outing.

She said the team wants to give the young girls a platform to expose their talent and gain experience, adding they are looking forward to a good and competitive tournament.

There were a few surprises in the opening round of matches, with Loloma Heights Women from Savusavu causing an upset after defeating Ezers Women 5–0.

Tagimoucia Ranadi also stamped their mark as one of the favourites after recording one win and one draw, while Kasabias Sinukalala remain in the mix with the same results.

In round one results, Loloma Heights beat Ezers Women 5–0, Lilian Amazons defeated Seahawks 17–12, Tagimoucia Ranadi drew 5–5 with Kasabias Sinukalala, and Kadavu Stallion thrashed Vuna Sisters 24–0.

Round two saw Lilian Amazons edge Ezers Women 12–10, Seahawks bounce back with a 15–5 win over Loloma Heights, Tagimoucia Ranadi defeat Kadavu Stallion 10–0, and Kasabias Sinukalala record a convincing 29–0 victory over Vuna Sisters.

Women play their final pool matches today.
