The Fiji Airways Men’s National 7s team has climbed to equal top spot on the World 7s Series standings, now level on 32 points with South Africa and New Zealand after the Cape Town 7s.
Fiji secured third place with a hard-fought 26-19 victory over France.
France struck first through Andy Timo for a 7-0 lead, but Fiji responded swiftly with a try from Terio Veilawa. Speedster Vuiviawa Naduvalo then sliced through the French defence to put Fiji ahead 14-7.
Liam Delamare levelled the score for France just before halftime, locking the game at 14-all.
Fiji started the second spell with intent, as Sevuloni Mocenacagi and Manueli Maisamoa crossed for tries to extend the lead to 26-14. A late try from Simon Desert narrowed the margin, but Fiji held on for the win.
Coach Osea Kolinisau admitted the side lacked consistency throughout the tournament but was pleased they finished strongly to collect crucial points. He also acknowledged errors in their loss to Argentina and said the team would address them ahead of the next leg.
South Africa leads the overall standings on points difference after edging Argentina 21-19 in the Cape Town final.
Fiji earned 16 points from the tournament, New Zealand picked up 12 after taking fifth place, while France sits in fourth with 28 points. Australia follows with 26, and Argentina is sixth on 24.
The next stop on the series is the Singapore 7s, scheduled for January 31 to February 1, 2026.
