Vodafone Fiji Bati players conducted rugby league training drills for students of Francis Askew Primary School in Hull yesterday as part of their community engagement programs during the Rugby League World Cup.

Team manager Tevita Korosaya led players Joshua Wong, Henry Raiwalui, Sitiveni Moceimereke, Netane Masima, and Tevita Toloi as they put Year 5 students through fun activities as part of their physical education class.

Year 5 schoolteacher Andrew Finnerty said students learned about Fiji and its culture in the classroom before the players arrived.

“You can see how excited the students are. I told them last week of the visit and they were really excited this morning. It means a lot to the children,” Finnerty said.

Raiwalui said they were doing their part in promoting Fiji and the sport,” he said.

“Yeah, it was really good to get out to the kids and give back to the community.

“We’re just doing our part and spreading the love we have here in the Fiji Bati squad,” the dummy half player said.

“Definitely (enjoyed it), we were trying to share that Bati spirit and our Fijian culture.”

The school is located about seven minutes away from the Bati team base camp and in a city that boasts rugby league clubs Hull FC and Hull KR.
