The Fiji Bati is ranked sixth in the world of rugby league in the latest rankings released by the parent of the sport — Rugby League International Federation.
The Bati climb up in the ranks after their win over Papua New Guinea on May 2. According to Fiji National Rugby League, Fiji will keep on doing its best to improve on its ranking and they will be given a chance when they meet Samoa in the fight for a spot in the Four Nations.
Fiji’s best ever ranking was at number four after the 2009 World Cup.
The only other island team in the top 10 is Samoa who is ranked fourth, two better than Fiji. Samoa have had a better record after the World Cup when they beat Fiji to play in the Four Nations.
Meanwhile, New Zealand are the number one international rugby league team, climbing to the top of the rankings for the first time.
After the side’s 26-12 win over the Kangaroos on May 3, it was widely reported the Kiwis would knock their rivals off the top spot for the first time in the sport’s history, but now it’s official.
