Fiji has voted in favour of a United Nations General Assembly resolution calling for an immediate, complete and unconditional end to the war between Russia and Ukraine.

The resolution was adopted during the eleventh emergency special session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York on Tuesday.

A total of 107 countries, including Fiji, supported the measure, while 12 voted against it and 51 abstained.

The resolution calls for a comprehensive, just and lasting peace in accordance with international law and the Charter of the United Nations, and urges an end to hostilities between Russia and Ukraine.

Fiji’s vote places it alongside the majority of UN member states backing renewed international efforts to bring the conflict to an end through peaceful means.

The war, which began in 2022, has had widespread global consequences, including loss of life, displacement of civilians and disruptions to food, energy and economic security.

The General Assembly resolution, while non-binding, reflects the prevailing view of the international community and adds diplomatic pressure for a negotiated settlement aimed at restoring peace and stability.
