TEAM Fiji’s representatives to the 2025 Oceania Cup in Tonga returned from the competition recently after displaying exceptional performances at the event.
Personal bests were set and podium finishes were earned by the delegation.
Nadi athlete Samuela Vunivalu won gold in the long jump event after a jump of 7.05m which became his new personal best.
He also finished third in the triple jump event with a length of 13.21m.
Maryann Macedru came second in the shot put event, throwing a distance of 14.56m.
Seasoned national representative Errol Qaqa soared above his competitors in the 110m hurdles event to finish first with a time of 14.86s.
Palau Mini Games competitor Loata Lewageena finished second in the discus throw and javelin throw events.
The Emuri, Nadroga thrower with maternal links to Ono-i-Lau threw 43.50m in the discus throw event and 44.05m in the javelin throw event.
Junee Netball Club scholarship recipient Sereana Viriviri finished fourth in her two events; the long jump and high jump.
In the long jump, Viriviri jumped 5.21m and 1.45m in the high jump.
Paralympian athlete Jimi Onitoro was a standout performer for Team Fiji, finishing first in his three events.
In the 400m para event, he came first and set a new personal best with a time of 1:05.95s, jumped 4.99m in the long jump para and finished first in the 60m para with a time of 6.24s.
Seasoned athlete Naibili Vatunisolo earned first place with her performance in the shot put para with 8.21m.
Fiji’s athletes were part of Team Melanesia, made up also of athletes from Papua New Guinea, Vanuatu and the Norfolk Islands.
The competition ran from October 29 to last Saturday at the Teufaiva Sports Stadium in Nuku’alofa.
