Team Fiji’s contingent to the 2025 Pacific Mini Games in Palau was honoured in a Thanksgiving ceremony at Hall A of the Vodafone Arena on Saturday, July 19.
The event brought together athletes, officials, sponsors and supporters to reflect on a successful campaign that saw Fiji secure 27 gold, 30 silver and 24 bronze medals, finishing second overall on the medal tally.
The evening began with heartfelt formalities, led by the Minister for Youth and Sports, Jese Saukuru.
In his address, Minister Saukuru expressed deep gratitude to the athletes and officials, commending their commitment, resilience and the pride they brought to the nation.
He congratulated Team Fiji for their outstanding achievements and acknowledged the support from families, coaches and the entire country.
A highlight of the night was the presentation of Certificates of Participation to each sport, recognizing the collective effort that propelled Fiji to the number two spot on the medal tally.
The celebration continued with the Athletes’ Choice Awards, where individual athletes were honoured for their exceptional spirit, leadership and performance.
The athletes themselves played a key role in selecting the award recipients, making the recognition even more meaningful.
Cathy Wong, president of FASANOC extended a heartfelt thanks to all athletes, coaches, sponsors, families and the support crew, emphasizing the pride Fiji feels for their achievements both on and off the field.
With the Pacific Mini Games now behind them, Team Fiji has set its sights on new goals: the 2026 Commonwealth Games and the 2026 Youth Olympic Games.
The support from key partners,including the Fiji Government, Fiji National Sports Commission, Fiji Sports Council, Olympic Solidarity, Oceania National Olympic Committees, ASCO Motors, The Fiji Times, Fiji Water, Vodafone, Star Printery, Legend Sportswear, Motibhai, Sportsworld, Essity and the people of Fiji was warmly acknowledged as essential to the team’s ongoing success.
