Fiji will be one of the co-facilitators of the 2026 Climate Change and Oceans Dialogue.

This has been announced by Government, which says the dialogue will be convened under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

It will be done in collaboration with the Government of Brazil and the incoming COP30 presidency.

A Fiji Government update on the issue stated this nomination was supported by all developing country parties through a selection process conducted at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, last year.

“Through the agreed arrangements the two governments will serve as co-facilitators on a rotational basis,” the statement read.

“The Government of Brazil will serve as co-facilitator in 2025 supported by Fiji, before Fiji assumes the co-facilitator role in 2026. Carlos Márcio Bicalho Cozendey from Brazil will lead the dialogues for 2025, while Fiji’s permanent secretary for Environment and Climate Change, Dr Sivendra Michael, will take the helm in 2026.”

Government says this leadership role highlights Fiji’s ongoing commitment to addressing climate change and protecting the oceans.
