Fiji amateur boxers Jone Koroilagilagi and Elia Rokobuli will train with International Boxing Association (IBA) level three coach Cam Todd in New Zealand in the lead up to the Commomwealth Games in Birmingham, London in June.

Koroilagilagi and Rokobuli will join Todd at his Wreck Room Gym in Auckland where they will train, spar and compete in local tournaments before flying out to join the United Kingdom Boxing Team in a two-week camp in Sheffield before the start of the Commonwealth Games in July.

Boxing Fiji president Manasa Baravilala said Todd recently completed his IBA coaches’ instructor course in Finland after being selected from the Oceania region for the training.

He said only nine coaches in the world were invited by the IBA to attend the course.

“The massive benefit to Fiji and Oceania Boxing Confederation is that Cam will be able to deliver the IBA boxing courses, grade and accredit our amateur boxing coaches,” Baravilala said.

“This is significant and important development pathway in our training and accreditation process and will assist smaller countries.

“Like Fiji, who don’t have qualified boxing coaches, this is a far cry from the days of sending coaches to the AIBA academy in Almaty, Kyrgyzstan for training and accreditation was simply beyond the pocketbook of many small Oceania boxing countries

“Congratulations Cam on your selection and, for your perseverance, sacrifice and contribution to amateur boxing in the Oceania region.”
