Due to the fuel supply challenge in Tuvalu, Fiji Airways anticipates that there will be necessary adjustments to passenger and baggage loads on its flights to and from Funafuti, and some guests may not be able to travel as booked.
According to a travel alert by the national airline, in the past 24 hours Funafuti Airport officials have notified Fiji Airways that there is less than 1000 liters of fuel available in Tuvalu.
The alert reads, “This situation will directly affect our passenger and baggage capacity, as we will need to carry return fuel from Fiji for all flights to and from Funafuti.
“This situation will persist until March 12 by which time a fuel delivery is expected.
“Regrettably, this current issue is beyond our immediate control and is due to the unavailability of fuel in Tuvalu.
“As a result, Fiji Airways must adjust its operations to accommodate the carriage of this extra fuel, significantly reducing passenger and baggage capacity to the island.
“We sincerely appreciate your patience and understanding as we navigate through this situation together.”
