THE Fiji Airways Fiji Men’s 7s team is ramping up their preparations as they get ready to defend their title at the Dubai 7s next month, which marks the first leg of the HSBC SVNS series.
Yesterday, the extended squad held a training session at Albert Park in Suva, with the addition of three new faces to the team’s lineup.
According to head coach Osea Kolinisau, the team’s preparations have been progressing well.
The focus during the preseason has been on building strength, particularly in the upper body to address issues with missed tackles from the previous season.
“We have been falling off a lot of tackles last season, and as you can see in our fitness, we really pushing the boys, trying to meet the intensity of the series, and trying to play above it, so when the series comes it’s easy for the boys,” said Kolinisau.
The coach acknowledged that the competition will be tough, with top-eight teams and challenging pools.
“We know it’s going to be a tough series for us, ask you know its top eight and the pools are going to be hard, and there is no quarter-finals, so it will be really tough, we need to focus on every game, and we are looking forward for the upcoming series.”
In further preparation for the Dubai 7s, coach will be taking 14 players to a competition in New Zealand, with the team set to depart tomorrow.
Upon their return, they will have one week of training before the final squad selection for the Dubai 7s is made.
The Dubai 7s will be held from November 29 to December 1.
