Fiji 7s in fourth place

Fiji has moved to fourth place on the HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series after the completion of the Los Angeles tournament yesterday.

New Zealand has furthered its lead with 107 points, Argentina and South Africa tied in second with 86 while Fiji claimed the fourth spot with 84 points.

Should Fiji maintain its spot they will directly secure a spot at the Paris 2024 spots with the top four teams at the end of the 2022–23 series.

Meanwhile, the penalty count in the last two games of the Fiji Airways Fiji men’s 7s team is worrying matter heading to the next HSBC World Rugby Sevens Series in Vancouver, Canada next weekend.

The Ben Gollings-coached side is yet to win a title in the series after six tournaments. They only came close at the Hong Kong 7s with the silver medal finish.

The Fiji Airways Men’s side won their second bronze medal in the 2022/2023 World Sevens Series.

Waisea Nacuqu was sent to the sin-bin for a deliberate knock-on during Fiji’s 17-20 semi-final loss to Argentina and the side was penalised on numerous occasions at the end part of the encounter

. In the bronze medal play-off Tevita Tevita Daugunu and his warriors scored most of their points in the first half and defended in the second half as Australia made a strong comeback.

Fiji defeated Australia in the LA 7s third-place playoff 21-19.

New players Anasa Qaranivalu and Ponipate Loganimasi were standout in their first tournament so as Rokoua Rasaku and Rauto Vakadranu, who scored in the game against Australia.

Meanwhile Fiji’s Los Angeles 7s title hopes were dashed after losing to Argentina 20-17 in the first semi-final.

The side avenged its Sydney 7s quarter-final loss to South Africa and thrashed them 28-7 to qualify for the semis.
