FIJI 7s skipper Kalione Nasoko has apologised to the people of Fiji on the eve of the team’s departure for the HSBC World Rugby Series Las Vegas and Vancouver 7s tournaments.

The Yasawa native pleaded guilty to a charge of driving under the influence of liquor early this month in Nadi.

Nasoko asked for forgiveness from the fans during the Fiji Rugby Union press conference in Nadi last night.

“I would like to humbly apologise to the people of Fiji, the Fiji Rugby Union, our sponsors, my teammates and family for letting you down,” he said.

“To represent Fiji as a member of the Fijian 7s is an honour and privilege and one that I cherish and value greatly.

“I made a mistake in making the assumption that I had fully recovered when I decided to drive my vehicle that morning and I acknowledge that error of judgment and am grateful for the decision I made.

“This has been a learning experience for me and it is my hope that my experience will be a lesson for any person in this situation, to ensure that you are 100 per cent clear before you pick your keys to drive and not assume.”

Nasoko said as captain, he was determined to show respect to the people and supporters of the jersey by acknowledging his remorse.

“I never intended to cause damage or harm to the reputation and the legacy of the white jersey.

“I am truly sorry for these events and I hope to earn back the trust of you through my future actions and behaviour.

“I seek forgiveness from all our supporters in Fiji and globally and sincerely hope for your understanding and continued support and prayers,” he said.

Nasoko and his teammates departed the country last night without speedster Alasio Naduva.

Fiji Rugby Union CEO John O’Connor said they were still waiting for his visa and confident the flyer would join the team in Las Vegas next week.
