The Fijian Elections Office (FEO) has signed a Terms of Reference (ToR) with stakeholders for collaboration in the implementation of unified strategies to prevent disinformation in electoral processes.
Supervisor of Elections Ana Mataiciwa said through this collaboration, they would empower voters with accurate information and ensure transparency throughout the electoral cycle.
“This collaboration emphasises a unified commitment to promoting accountability and trust within Fiji’s electoral framework,” Ms Mataiciwa said.
“By bringing together stakeholders from the media, civil society, and Government, we aim to develop a robust response to disinformation while fostering public confidence in the nation’s democratic systems.”
The ToR was signed on Friday between FEO and Fiji Media Association, Fiji Media Council, FemLink Pacific, Pacific Centre for Peacebuilding, Online Safety Commission and the Electoral Commission of Fiji.
It focuses on four key areas, which are civil society organisation (CSO) engagement, information and effective communication, capacity development coordination and online safety awareness and addressing disinformation.
The signing comes as Fiji is headed towards the 2026 polls.
