FICAC commissioner resigns

Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) commissioner Rashmi Aslam has resigned.

According to a Facebook post on the Fiji Government page, in a letter addressed to the Office of the President dated September 1, 2023, Mr Aslam stated that “the time has arrived to embark on a new path.”

“I hold firm confidence that the Government will continue to provide unwavering support and effective leadership to guide the Commission in sustaining Fiji’s resolute fight against corruption,” Mr Aslam was reported to have said.

He also said he has “tirelessly dedicated himself to the pursuit of a corrupt-free Fiji and is immensely gratified by the collective accomplishments of the Commission during his tenure.”

Mr Aslam had served FICAC over a period of 11 years and seven months.

He began as a senior prosecutor before being promoted to Manager Legal and Acting Deputy Commissioner before his appointment as Deputy Commissioner in May 2020 and Commissioner in April last year.

President Ratu Wiliame Katonivere has accepted Mr Aslam’s resignation.
