There needs to be a secretariat set up for the Fiji Indigenous Business Council (FIBC).

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Tourism Viliame Gavoka made the point while contributing to discussions at the FIBC FHL Workshop 24 yesterday on the lack of exposure of some Fijian products overseas.

He said a secretariat was imperative to draft a resolution from the workshop on all issues raised that he could present to Cabinet.

“We need it, we need a secretariat, it will help with marketing our products,” Mr Gavoka told 200-plus participants.

FIBC president Ulai Taoi acknowledged and supported Mr Gavoka’s response for a secretariat.

“We need to have our own database for FIBC, and generate that database by region, province, tikina, and cascade down,” Mr Taoi said.

FHL Group CEO Jaoji Koroi also supported the idea saying the secretariat can be a platform to assist iTaukei businesses and natural resource owners.
