The Rarama Art Festival 2022 provides a space and forum for artists to showcase their work, says University of the South Pacific (USP) Oceania Centre director Larry Thomas.
The festival includes an open month-long Rarama Art Gala at the Oceania Centre.
“The month-long visual arts exhibition will provide a visibility and hopefully the traffic with people coming will give the artists the exposure that we hope they will get,” Mr Thomas said.
“There isn’t much support given for artists and I think artists, whether you’re a visual artist, whether you’re a craftsperson, whether you’re a filmmaker, often it’s a struggle.
“And so one of the main features about the Rarama Festival is really to promote local art and local artists.”
He said aside from visual arts, participants have also had vocal workshops with popular 2022 Korean singing platform “Immortal Songs” winner Sunia Soko Loga and acting workshop auditions with Ben Gibson and Moana Loa Performing Arts Centre co-founder Ateca Ravuvu.
“The response from the people have been very encouraging.
“The exhibition is free, open between 10am to 4pm every day here at the centre, and we encourage more people to come.”
The month-long festival will end on October 28.
