The Fijian Elections Office (FEO) states headquarters will remain closed until further notice to allow the necessary assessments to be carried out after a fire on Saturday morning.
Supervisor of Elections, Ana Mataiciwa said the Voter Services Centres in Suva, Lautoka, and Labasa will continue to operate as normal.
“The public will be informed once the necessary assessments have been completed and the Headquarters is ready to reopen,” stated Ms Mataiciwa.
She adds its offices were not affected by the fire on Saturday morning.
FEO adds all electoral operations remain secure and functional despite the fire spreading to a section of the FEO premises and partially affected one of the FEO’s levels.
“The fire, which spread to the FEO building, partially affected one of our levels. But with the instant action by the National Fire Authority, they successfully contained the fire and prevented additional damage,” said.
“We will support the investigations and work closely with the relevant authorities in conducting this. In addition, the safety of our staff, the integrity of electoral data, and public confidence remain our top priorities.”
She said the public will be informed once the necessary assessments have been completed and the Headquarters is ready to reopen.
