The Fijian Elections Office (FEO) says preparations for the next general election are well underway, with key legal timelines already mapped out.

Supervisor of Elections Ana Mataiciwa said the office had been actively pushing out information on the possible writ and election dates.

“In terms of the general elections, as we are all aware, we’ve been pushing out the legal timelines,” Ms Mataiciwa said.

“The first possible election writ date would be on the June 24, 2026.

“So, if it’s issued on June 24, 2026, then the first possible election date would be on August 7, 2026.

“If it’s issued at the last possible writ date, which is on the Christmas Eve of 2026, then the last possible election date would be on February 6, 2027.” She said preparing for the general election remained one of the office’s core responsibilities.

“In terms of the preparation for the general elections, it’s well underway as well. And we will be rolling out awareness slowly.

“People might be wondering, okay, its election year, we haven’t seen anything around, but it doesn’t mean that we haven’t been doing anything.

“We have been actually doing things behind the scenes.

“But this year will be the year that we will go out, and we will be on your face more in terms of the electoral processes.”

She assured voters that while much of the work had taken place behind the scenes, public engagement and awareness activities would become more visible as the election period progresses.
