Fellowship scoops top award

IT was sweet victory for Tidworth Fijian Methodist Fellowship as they scooped the coveted Vakanavue Trophy at the annual choir competition in Stoke on Saturday.

This was the third time for the champion choir who had sang the hymn Loloma (Love) which was composed by the late Apakuki Coka which justified the level of singing and working together to perfect a hymn that allowed them to take home the trophy.

Church steward Akuila Robanakadavu thanked the Lord for his blessings and the church members for working together despite the difficulties while learning the hymn.

“It is sweet victory for us because we had gone through alot of difficulties and evenings of choir practice but we trusted the Lord and eachother which saw us come out winners.

“It has also strengthened the bond within the church members this past few weeks and since we are a closely knitted military community families, we are very happy we had won,” he said.

He said there were alot of very good and strong choirs from other churches in the north, south and northern ireland circuits and the choir from Germany that performed extremely well at the competition.

Choir mistress Sivoki Cokanasiga said weeks of choir practice had really paid off for the church members.

“Tidworth came with an intention to participate but we came fired up and prepared with our hymn,” she said.

She said the level of competition has reached another level.

Mrs Cokanasiga thanked the choir members for their endurance, effort, hardwork and the supporters and Tidworth community who have been very supportive all along.

Mrs Cokanasiga was also awarded the best conductor with two other conductors at the competition.
